My Upgraded Home Theater Setup-Samsung LN-S4692D LCD
A few weeks ago, I decided to do a substantial upgrade to my home theater setup. I decided it was time to replace my 27-inch Sony WEGA TV of 5 years. I actually can't say a bad thing about it, as I really enjoyed owning that TV. But I decided to put it out to pasture and replace it with a Samsung LN-S4692D LCD. During the process, I also decided to replace my older Sony 5.1 receiver (another product I cannot say a bad word about) with a new Yamaha HTR-6090, as I wanted something with HDMI hookups for my cable box and TV. The whole thing has been online for about 1 month now, and I could not be much happier. The movies we have watched from HBO HD have been stellar, with the sound improvements being far better than I thought they would. The only problem I encountered was soundtracks skipping when I had the cable box sending sound and video over the HDMI interface. I move the sound off to a fiber optic cable, and the problem went away. I suspect that this might have resulted from cheap HDMI cables (I didn't get the $200 Monster Cable ones). The whole purchase was done through Tony at J&R Electronics in NYC, who cut me a deal on the receiver given I bought the TV. My purchase experience was great, so I would definitely recommend J&R in terms of price and being easy to deal with.
Now I need to figure out whether to keep using my old Sony progressive scan DVD player, or upgrade that too! I think I will probably keep it for a while as I am pretty happy with the picture quality.
