My Upgraded Home Theater Setup-Samsung LN-S4692D LCD
A few weeks ago, I decided to do a substantial upgrade to my home theater setup. I decided it was time to replace my 27-inch Sony WEGA TV of 5 years. I actually can't say a bad thing about it, as I really enjoyed owning that TV. But I decided to put it out to pasture and replace it with a Samsung LN-S4692D LCD . During the process, I also decided to replace my older Sony 5.1 receiver (another product I cannot say a bad word about) with a new Yamaha HTR-6090 , as I wanted something with HDMI hookups for my cable box and TV. The whole thing has been online for about 1 month now, and I could not be much happier. The movies we have watched from HBO HD have been stellar, with the sound improvements being far better than I thought they would. The only problem I encountered was soundtracks skipping when I had the cable box sending sound and video over the HDMI interface. I move the sound off to a fiber optic cable, and the problem went away. I suspect that this might have resulted from cheap HDMI...
The Toshiba Gigabeat -A Failed Experiment
A few months back, I posted my dilemma about getting a new Ipod or trying Toshiba's new Gigabeat S30. I took a risk, and went with the Gigabeat based on some good preliminary reviews. That was a giant mistake. If you look through the MyGigbeat.com support forum (which really is the only source online-Toshiba never made an effort to put up anything remotely close). It's really a shame-the product fell a bit short on battery life, but had a great interface and was better than the Ipod to navigate around content. Tomorrow, I will be calling Toshiba to speak to someone that isn't answering the phone looking at "If the customer asks this, then you say...." flowcharts. I urge you not to bother with Toshiba's consumer products anymore. The Gigabeat S was released in May, and the support would make you feel like it was 3 years old and end-of-life.
