Updated my SBS 2003 article to include a blurb concerning the Treo 650 and activesync

I finally fixed the issue I was having using a different email account as the primary account on SBS 2003 and ActiveSync with my Treo 650.  It involved a bit of tinkering with the default recipient policy and the SMTP virtual server.

Run two OSes on one processor!

Vanderpool technology from Intel does just that!  Hmm, now I can run Windows 2003 and Windows XP simultaneously...

My thoughts on the Treo 650...

Well I guess I have been a bit slow on posting some of my thoughts concerning some of the new gadgets I have.

The Treo 650 was a replacement for my existing Treo 600, which BTW I thought was an excellent device, minus the screen resolution and the camera quality.

So far everything works as expected, better than the Treo 600.  The new blazer browser is significantly faster, combined with the 320x320 resolution screen it is almost as good as it gets.  I do, however prefer the way pocket internet explorer works and displays content.

The main positives that I see with the phone are:

Ø      High resolution screen

Ø      Good battery life

Ø      Enhanced keyboard

Ø      Real Player

Ø      Versa Mail w/ Active Sync (Doesn’t support OAN, or syncing sub-folders)

Ø      Non-volatile RAM

The main negatives are:

Ø      No multitasking (I think it is time to overhaul the palm os…)

Ø      Phone doesn’t automatically turn on when reset.  (There are third party utils that do this.)

Ø      Can’t receive phone calls while browsing…(see fist bullet)

Ø      Non-volatile RAM allocation unit too large, limits actual storage space

Ø      One-Two second delay when placing calls

Ø      Sync only syncs palm address fields (How about full outlook field support for ac change?)

So far there are no competitors to this phone.  Sure you have the HTC devices, but they are still larger and don’t have the fully functional keyboard.

I was waiting on the Motorola MPX to come out, but after I saw the quality of the MPX220, I questioned whether I should wait for it, since it wasn’t going to include much memory or a speedy processor.

I did have a stint with the Audiovox SMT 5600 (HTC Typhoon) and the MPX220 from AT&T.  Great phone!  However no keyboard…On of the most common things I do on my phone is browse for information, cut and paste and send to my email address.  If I can’t do these things then the phone is not for me…

Now the HTC Magician is a nice phone, I do still prefer the keypad.

I am keeping an eye on the new Samsung SCH-i730.  My wife says she would be happy to relieve me of my Treo 650 the next time I upgrade…=)

So the Treo in my opinion is still the smartest of the all in one device out there with a smallish form factor for now.  I’m sure there will be people who disagree, but hey this is my opinion.  =)
