Future of computing
Well many things have occured in the last week or so, Apple dropping IBM, Microsoft using three PowerPC processors in their new XBox 360. But the one interesting thing in my mind is the PS3 processor being developed by IBM.
It seems to be a general purpose vector processor. With an interesting twist, nine, yes nine cores inside. Something like a Cray in a box, or a super DSP.

As for performance, I guess we will see more real world benchmarks in the future but right now Toshiba had a demo of decoding of 48 SDTV MPEG-2 streams.
Very interesting if you ask me. If you could do realtime hd video encoding this would be a killer processor.
