Well it has been awhile since I have last posted. With that said, I had a Verizon Treo 700w for a couple of weeks to see how it compared to my Treo 650.
There have been many reviews on this topic but I will give you my experience.
Overall, I am a big fan of this device. The size and the keyboard are essential for me. Windows Mobile is just the icing on the cake. Although many people are picking on the functionality of each function, I feel that the Palm Treo 700w is well integrated with Windows Mobile 5. It is hands down a great phone. (Just for reference, the Palm Treo 650's Palm OS doesn't support multitasking, so when you are on the phone, the device isn't doing anything else, like retrieving and email, etc...)
I have two main issues with the device, the screen and the available memory.
Although I understand where the Windows Mobile guys are coming from about video scaling pov, I still think they could have supported it. The Windows Mobile Today screen is very busy. I would of really appreciated the additional realestate. (Treo 700w supports 240x240 and the Treo 650 supports 320x320)
The available memory for application is low. You need to continually make sure you exit all the programs that you are not using. I think this may be related to why large web site pages occasionally made the device unresponsive. Sometimes I would have to do a hard reset.
My only other issue is the cost of the service. I think Verizon is a bit too high for unlimited bandwith, with no non-verizon SMS messages. But if you need coverage, I only tested in my the NY/NJ area, Verizon is the best in the town, with Sprint following a close second.
Well during the couple of weeks I have been using this device, I gave my Treo 650 to my wife. Now it looks like I won't be getting it back. Oh well, I will have to wait for Sprint to release the Treo 700...or I have heard that there might be a Treo 800p?
