How to avoid IPhone Activation Frustration
As many of you know, Apple has decided to forego the in store activation model to allow individuals to just pickup the phone and activate at their leisure. Leisure is right not on the buyer but AT&T.
From what I can gather this is what you can expect the experience depending on what you want done.
- Activate IPhone with a new number < 10 minutes
- Activate IPhone with transfer of AT&T number ~ 24 hours but you can still use the IPhone
- Activate IPhone with transfer of non-AT&T number ~24 hours and your IPhone will be a paper weight until it is activated.
Now what happens when you want to do two? Double the fun!
If you are going to select the Family plan and also port your existing number, you will need to wait a few hours and then add the second IPhone. I found about 4 hours is about when your old phone number is in the system, allowing you to add the second IPhone.
So in a nutshell, if you are not married to your phone number, don't port it.
