Productivity Tool of the Week: PureText (and CopyCleaner)

Darrell posted about PureText last week which solves one of the most annoying things (to me, anyways): being able to post unformatted text. Finally - a keyboard shortcut for Paste Special! (I'm using Win-V, which is quite natural I guess).

Have you ever copied some text from a web page, a word document, help, etc., and wanted to paste it as simple text into another application without getting all the formatting from the original source? PureText makes this simple. Just copy/cut whatever you want to the clipboard, click on the PureText tray icon, and then paste to any application.  Better yet, you can configure a Hot-Key to convert and paste the text for you.  The pasted text will be pure and free from all formatting.

I've been using this for a week or so but I'm just getting around to blogging it now. It has some quirks but it's definitely a nice utility for the proverbial tool belt. And, of course, it's free.

01/04/2005:  I've been having some issues with PureText actually pasting with the Win+V keyboard shortcut. I've been using CopyCleaner instead with no problems. Download here.

Nice one :) The funny thing is i've been using my own tool which does just that. I put in a little tracking ability in it just for fun... in the last 1,124 hours that it's been running it did 18,509 clipboard checks and stripped formatting 2,975 times :) wow... i cut'n'paste alot

I always just fire up notepad (actually notepad2), paste, select all, copy.

Takes a second extra, but it works and then I don't have to worry about yet another utility on my machine.

Win+V is a lot quicker if you do it ... say, 18,509 times like Alex :)

Seriously though, I do a lot of pasting from HTML, Word docs, etc - and it's definitely nicer to use Win-V :)
