  • France launching 'Google Earth competitor'

First Apple , now Google. France is launching a competitor to Google Earth that has detailed imagery of French territories. From the Reuters article ( not yet on their site - will update when a link is available): President Jacques Chirac stressed the need for France to have such a site, which will allow Internet users to view aerial photos and maps, saying the state had to be at the cutting edge of modern technology. It is also about democracy because our citizens have the right to know all the facts about the environment. When visiting the site, "cutting edge" are not the first words to come to mind.
