  • When will the NFL Network standoff end?

Like so many others , I was furious when I couldn't watch the Packers-Cowboys games a few weeks back. The NFL Network is only carried on satellite which is simply not an option for many of us in urban areas like NYC. For those who haven't been paying attention, there's been a long-running...

  • Refocusing Net Neutrality

Awhile back, I echoed the electricity analogy : the problem is that the "telecoms are threatening to charge a premium for how the utility is used, instead of how much of it is used." Someone from the Hands Off the Internet Coalition commented on that post. Tim, the analogy is flawed and doesn't make...

  • The tradeoffs of the Energy Policy Act of 2005

As part of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 that Congress passed last year, Daylight Savings Time will be extended by four weeks. One of the rationales behind DST is that we leverage the longer daylight hours in the summer months to minimize the need for artificial light. This operates off the assumption...

  • Update on the DOA Dell

I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that I ordered a Dell and it was dead out of the box . My original discussion was with Dell Hardware Support at 2am on Sat Morning. When I spoke with Customer Service on the following Monday, I told them I wasn't happy with having a technician replace the motherboard...

  • Gartner sends a cease and desist to remove a link

Scoble passes along that James Governor, an analyst for RedMonk, received a C&D from Gartner for a link . Wow. I obviously haven't seen the letter, but I'm trying to imagine what possible legal recourse they have to linking to a publicly visible URL. Obviously there's no copyright infringement and...

  • Source links go missing from Weblogs Inc RSS feeds again

It was just a few days ago that I was gushing about how Engadget had earned my loyalty by enabling me to consume their content on my terms with a full-text feed. I've said that, in the long run, they've gotten more page impressions than they would have by giving me a partial feed and "forcing" me to...

  • Becoming very frustrated with Newsgator

I'm really becoming very frustrated with Newsgator Outlook Edition and specifically, the synchronization functionality added in version 2.5. As I've mentioned previously, I have categorize my feeds into various sub-directories and use search folders to "roll up" a category. Newsgator, however, no longer...

  • iPods *are* a security risk... or, not-so-yellow journalism

iPods a security risk, warns complete idiot . Uh, sorry Ryan, but I don't think the analyst is the complete idiot here. USB devices are legitimate threats to the enterprise. As the article points out, the risk is two-way: sensitive data leaving and malicious or otherwise unapproved software entering...

  • On-the-go playlists for the iPOD

The iPOD already supports creating a single 'On-The-Go' playlist. I can add x number of songs to the list and clear the list. Why is it that I can't also save this temporary playlist as a 'real' playlist? Seems like the hard part is already done.
